The Early Life And Career Of Mahmood Khan

Internationally renowned musician Mahmood Khan may come from a typical background, but he quickly grew into a music superstar. Born and raised in Lahore, Pakistan, Khan always dreamed of going to the top of the music charts. His musical interest began at an early age when at age 7, he was able to play the guitar and piano; by age 13, he was writing and performing original songs.
Mahmood Khan moved to the United States in the 1980's, working as a second engineer at Jam Power, a music production house in Los Angeles, California. Twelve years of dedication to the company found Khan realizing his dream of becoming a music artist. With a burning desire to be a successful musician, Khan took voice perfection training lessons from the famed vocal coach Seth Riggs. He also immersed himself in an ocean of self-development, influenced by the philosophy works of Kahil Gibran.

Eventually, Khan was encouraged to begin his own music production house. In 1995, he launched his first solo album, “Fairytale.” The album's sales were meager but Khan was undaunted. He kept working on his craft, and his diligent work paid off when fellow Pakistan singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan approached him to collaborate on a project. Under the same banner, they produced an album, “Only One,” which sold over 6 million units internationally. Mahmood Khan now refers to 1997 as the one of the best times of his life. He is grateful he got the chance to work with the late great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and learn from this brilliant artist.

Inspired by the album's success to further pursue his dreams, Khan recorded a live album at the Sydney Opera House in 2009. A track from the live album, “Like the River” topped the Australian Pop charts the same year. It was also the beginning of a new genre known as World/Pop and Modern Funk.
