Mahmood Khan’s Dedication To Robin Gibb
Music is something that binds people of all ages. It is an old saying that when everything else leaves, the music stays. The music industry worldwide has seen many great musicians who have changed the meaning of music in their own terms and made it a medium to touch the lives of the masses.
One such musician is Mahmood Khan. Born and brought up in Lahore, Pakistan, Khan moved to LA, USA in the late 1980’s. His few first contacts in LA included the Bee Gees. The famous music band the Bee Gees, consisted of three brothers, Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb, and Robin Gibb. Khan was close to all three of them in different ways. While Barry Gibb held a place like that of an inspiration, he was more of a father figure for Mahmood Khan. Today, Barry is the only surviving member of the Bee Gees.
On the other hand, the twin brothers, Maurice and Robin, were like brothers to Khan. Robin and Khan had a relatively closer relationship and shared a different bond. On the demise of Robin Gibb in 2012, after a prolonged fight against cancer, his fans were shattered and so was his closest friend, Mahmood Khan. When Khan recovered from the shock of the loss of his friend, he started writing an album on their relationship. As told by Khan, it was really hard for him to get over this tragedy and hence he thought of creating a masterpiece album in dedication to his lost friend.
In Khan’s life, the Bee Gees were among one of the closest people to him. And the prominent proof of their relationship was made public when Khan produced an album named "Hum Do”, meaning the two of us, in the memory of Robin. This album was something that touched the hearts of millions of fans of Khan.
The inside story behind this album was revealed by Mahmood Khan, after it was released. Khan told the media that he got so involved in writing this album that he completed the project within one month. While he was writing the songs in English, he did not realize that he had started writing in Urdu, his mother tongue. It was then, he remembered that Robin used to say, ‘Music has no language, but is a feeling’. So, Khan continued to write in Urdu and the outcome was a soul touching "Hum Do".
