Mahmood Khan And Bollywood

For any artist, his best accomplishments are the ones that have been acclaimed officially. It is a dream of millions of aspiring musicians and actors to get their work appreciated by the audience as well as by other artists.

For ages, the best way of congratulating art has been through award ceremonies. However, over the years, a few things have changed. An actor wants his movie to be a blockbuster at the box office; a musician wants his name to be on the top on various charts. One such artist who had this dream and achieved it, too, is Mahmood Khan.

A well-known musician, songwriter, music producer, singer, and filmmaker, Khan began his journey as any other struggling artist. Born in Lahore, Pakistan, the young artist moved to the USA to make a music career. Sooner, before it was expected, Khan's music was adopted in Bollywood Films.

A prominent appreciation of his work in Bollywood was when his two songs, “Teri Yaad and Janeman”, were taken in the film “Kartoos”, starring Sanjay Dutt. However, there were mixed reactions to the inclusion of these songs in the film. There were also some post- film rumors that said Khan was unhappy about his music being taken in the film. However, later he cleared the air by denying any such rumor.

This number by Mahmood Khan was a major role player in publicizing the film, however, the critics had something else to say. While the audience loved the song and the lyrics, the film critics believed that there was no relevance of the songs in the film.

Sung by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Udit Narayan, another two great musicians from Asia, the songs had to face lots of controversy. Apart from its irrelevance in the film, critics also said that the song started abruptly in the film and its screening was not good either. However, this never bothered Khan. He always believed in his art and went on to produce his kind of music. Besides, he had nothing to do with the direction or screening of the song in the film.

‘Kartoos’ was released in 1999, and since then Khan has not played any noticeable role in Bollywood. Khan has worked internationally and is the creator of two famous music genres, the Modern Funk and the Hip Hop. As they say, successful people are always humble; Khan has never been in controversy when it comes to international music industry.
